Software updates – they’re a very versatile and easy way of breathing new life to otherwise outdated tech, and in the case of companies like Samsung have seen great strides in availability and overall improvement. With that in mind, Samsung recently announced that it will be bringing over select features from One UI’s current iteration to its older phones, tablets, as well as wearables.

More specifically, One UI 5.1.1 will come to several devices including the Galaxy Z Fold4 and Z Flip4 devices starting this month, while the Z Fold3, Z Flip3, Z Fold2 and Z Flip devices will get the updates later on.

For tablets, the Galaxy Tab S8, Tab S8+, Tab S8 Ultra, Tab S7, Tab S7+, Tab S7 FE, Tab S6 Lite, Tab A8, Tab A7 Lite, Tab Active 3 and Tab Active 4 Pro will receive user-centric features as part of the One UI 5.1.1 update. Additionally, the Galaxy Watch5, Watch5 Pro, Watch4, and Watch4 Classic will get features from the One UI 5 Watch update.

Tablets and Foldables

One UI 5.1.1 will come with new features for Flex Mode, as users can now easily access and customize their Flex Mode Panel experience and gain access to features such as Multi Window, touchpad, screen capture and more via simply folding their device in Flex Mode.

Samsung has also doubled down on multitasking functionality for its tablets and foldables, with an easier way to access pop-up search windows, as well as instant switching between the pop-up window to Multi Window mode. Two-handed drag and drop is now supported on tablets and foldables, making file management more seamless, adopting an approach seen from desktop computers.

The update also brings a new taskbar feature, meaning that users can now instantly switch between multiple apps, with a maximum of up to four different apps on the taskbar.

Galaxy Wearables

Samsung’s smart slates aren’t the only ones to receive new features – the Korean electronics giant also announced its new One UI 5 Watch update for its older devices such as the Galaxy Watch 5 and 4 series.

As such, the new update comes with the upgraded sleep management feature, which lets users better understand their personal sleep patterns through a more intuitive UI with detailed analysis stats, as well as Sleep Coaching that can be easily accessed directly on the watch. Compatible Watch devices can also automatically adjust settings in connected home devices, reducing distractions and helping users sleep better.

Galaxy Watch users can also expect the addition of the Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification (IHRN)14 feature, which provides more comprehensive heart health insights. Users can now also access the Personalized Heart Rate zone, which analyzes your physical capabilities and establishes five optimal running intensity levels, and in addition to the pre-existing workout trackers.

Galaxy Watch5 Pro users also get access to enhanced GPX features, allowing them to try out new routes more conveniently through the GPX File database, as well as search and download various GPX route files in their area. The Route Workout feature now supports running, walking, hiking, and cycling.

Samsung has also included optimized camera controls, which gives users a  quick access button on their Galaxy Watch for remote camera controls when paired with a Galaxy Z Flip4.

Users who own any of the devices mentioned above are advised to keep an eye on their device’s settings menu – simply head into Settings > Software Update > Download and Install to check if your device is eligible for the latest system update.
