The majority of flagship phones launched in 2023 are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, but in case you weren’t aware, there is a difference between these devices and those made by Samsung.
This is because Samsung had scored an exclusive deal where their Galaxy S23 series of phones were powered by an overclocked version of the chipset, giving them a slight edge in terms of performance. The good news is that the exclusivity has ended and that the chipset will be making its way into more devices, like the upcoming Nubia Red Magic 8S Pro.
This was confirmed by the company in a post on Weibo in which they revealed that their upcoming handset will feature the use of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset with a clock speed of 3.36GHz, the same speeds found on the Samsung Galaxy S23 series. Assuming the GPU will be the same, we can also look forward to faster speeds of 719MHz, which would be perfect for a gaming smartphone.
That being said, the difference in clock speeds isn’t particularly huge. Sure, on paper it is faster, but whether or not the difference can be felt in day-to-day usage remains to be seen, but seeing as the Red Magic 8S Pro is positioned as a gaming phone, we suppose the extra boost in power could come in handy for more intensive games.
