The majority of smartphones these days come with around 16GB of RAM. For the most part, this is more than enough for the majority of tasks we do on our phones, but a recent tip from Digital Chat Station has revealed that in the future, 24GB could become the new standard in RAM.
The report claims that “Oga” has started work on equipping phones with 24GB of RAM, and for those wondering who or what “Oga” is, it is apparently the name of the group that represents phone brands such as OnePlus, Oppo, and Realme, which means that these are the phones that could debut with 24GB of RAM.
That being said, we have to question whether or not we need that much RAM in our phones to begin with. In PCs, having more RAM is good because more RAM allows for better multitasking. On our phones it is kind of a similar situation, although one could argue that our phones are better optimized as the hardware is generally less varied compared to PCs.
More RAM also means more expensive components, which would in turn potentially lead to phones getting pricier, but that’s just speculation on our part. Either way we’ll have to wait and see which phones will be launching with 24GB of RAM, but in the meantime what do you think? Would you like to see more RAM in our phones? Or is the current amount enough?
