Right now, the majority of foldable phones fold in one way, which is in half. Whether it folds horizontally or vertically, it is essentially half. But now a recently discovered patent filed by Samsung shows the company is looking to create a foldable phone that can be folded three times.
We don’t mean onto itself, but as you can see in the tweet below, basically it’s a phone that folds like a zig-zag pattern. This means that in theory, Samsung could create a phone with a much larger display that unfolds into a massive screen/tablet. The only problem with such a design is that when it is folded up, it will probably be quite thick.

That being said, don’t get your hopes up at seeing this device hit the market anytime soon. Patents are a way for companies to protect their ideas and don’t always indicate their plans for the future. Plus, Samsung would also need to see whether or not there will be a demand for such a device to begin with, and how much it could cost and how much they could sell it for.
As it stands, regular foldable phones are already pretty pricey, so imagine a much larger foldable display and how much that could set customers back. But what do you think? Is this something you might be interested in?
