Withing’s Body Smart Scale Does More than Measure Your Weight

0

Withings’ continued development and research into health metrics has certainly helped back up its reputation as one of the go-to brands for modern smart health-tracking tech, which includes a wide range of smartwatches and scales. As such, the brand has introduced a new addition to its lineup in the form of the “Body Smart,” a smart scale that packs a neat set of tricks up its sleeve.

The Body Smart scale comes with Withings’ signatue Precision Technology that according to the company integrates multifrequency bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), precision weight sensors, and algorithms designed to give insights and health analysis, all at a wallet-friendly price. Going for $99.95, the scale also comes with weight and body composition analysis as well as advanced health measurements, including heart rate, visceral fat, metabolic age, and basal metabolic rate.

This isn’t the first smart scale that Withings has launched, though – the company’s lineup also includes the Body Comp and Body Scan scales, both of which also come with similar features to their newer sibling.

BIA works by sending a small electrical signal throughout the user’s body, which can then measure the resistance and reactance of body tissues to the current. Withings adds that more frequencies can yield to a more complete and accurate analysis of body health. The Body Smart can also measure visceral fat, which has been linked to heart disease and diabetes, in addition to tracking cardiovascular measurements and insights.

The Body Smart will also be able to measure Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), which is the number of calories a body burns during rest. These features will be available from May 2023 onwards, following an automatic update.

The scale also packs a color screen that displays important user information, although it does feature an “Eyes Closed Mode,” which informs users of data via personal messages or daily information such as step counts, air quality, and the weather. Other features include athletic, pregnancy, and baby modes, and are compatible with up to eight users.

The Body Smart also supports connectivity with the Withings app, as well as the Withings+ health improvement service, which guides users towards better health habits (via a subscription-based service). The Withings Body Smart scale will be available from April 18, 2023, and will come in black and white color variants.
