Pokemon & Netflix announce collaboration

0

As was announced in the Pokémon Direct on the February 27th, 2023, Netflix has announced a new venture with Pokémon. Being developed by Netflix’s Asian branch, they focus on developing localized content that can then be shared internationally. It’s through this process that Pokémon Concierge came to be! Utilizing the passion of the Pokémon community worldwide, there are tons of stories to share and adventures to be told. This includes everything from beloved in-game storylines to manga adaptations.

This will be completely separate from the traditional Pokémon anime that has been with us for generations and move towards a brand new storyline as well as utilizing an animation process called stop-motion. Stop motion is a filmmaking and animation tool where objects are physically changed in tiny increments in between separately captured frames. When the collection of frames is played back, they appear to move or change as a result of this. Stop-motion animation is nothing new and has been around since the 1850s. As technology has advanced and developed over time, this process has become all the more refined, making things look fluid and dynamic.

Netflix will be working with renowned stop-motion production studio Dwarf Studios in Japan. Dwarf Studios are known for its work on other video game franchises. This is not the first time they’ve worked with Pokémon’s publishing company, Nintendo. as they were brought in to work on the exceptionally adorable Yoshi’s Wooly World that was released in 2017.

The series will take place in the Pokémon Resort, where we will follow our protagonist, Haru, the concierge of the resort, and the stories that are waiting to be told by all of the Pokémon that visit as guests. While we don’t have a timeline yet for a release date, you can be sure that we’ll keep you posted as soon as we know more.
