OPPO Reportedly Developing its Own Mobile SoC

0

OPPO has been in the spotlight lately – fresh off the release of its latest Find N2 Flip Foldable, it seems that company is now the subject of online reports claiming that it’s currently developing its own mobile SoC, which could lead to more competition in the mobile chipset market.

The reports come by way of an online leak on the Weibo forums, a popular China-based social networking site. Site user @CellPhoneChipExpert claims that the company will soon release a mobile SoC in 2024, although some claim that we might see a product with the chipset in late 2023. The chip will reportedly be built an a 4nm process, and will also support 5G connectivity,

There have also been past reports that OPPO had invested around $1.4B towards IC design as well as personnel in main Chinese cities including Beijing, Shenzhen, and Shanghai, and other places for research and development in order to develop its own SoC successfully. Of course, there has been no formal announcement from the company regarding the development of a new chipset, so we’ll have to wait a bit for more “official” confirmation.

With that said however, if true then this should be an interesting entry in an space occupied by smartphones with first-party chips, including Apple’s own Bionic SoCs, Samsung’s Exynos brand, and even Google’s Tensor chips.
