Given the sheer number of people using WhatsApp on a daily basis, a lot of files are sent between users which means that this data needs to be able to be sent quickly and downloaded quickly. This is why WhatsApp compresses photos to make the files smaller, but it comes at the cost of quality.
While the photos are still recognizable, they definitely do not look as good compared to on your phone when you took it. The good news is that WhatsApp will soon let you send original quality images through its app.
This is according to a report from WABetaInfo where they revealed that WhatsApp is testing out allowing users to send photos in their original quality, meaning that what you took with your phone’s camera will be the same quality that is being sent to the other users. At the moment, sending original photos requires users to send it as a document which isn’t so obvious for some, and even then there are some limitations.
We’re not sure if there will also be file size limitations here or if it will truly be the original quality, so we’ll have to wait and see. The feature isn’t live yet, even for beta users, so it might be a while before we see it go live.
