WhatsApp users will soon be able to use their voice as status updates

One of the features of WhatsApp is that it allows users to post status updates. These are essentially WhatsApp’s version of Instagram/Facebook’s Stories. These are short video clips that last for 24 hours and allow users to post short updates or messages to their WhatsApp contacts.

According to a recent report from WABetaInfo, it seems that WhatsApp’s Status Updates are about to get a little update of their own. Based on their discovery in the latest beta of the app, it seems that WhatsApp will soon allow users to post voice notes as Status Updates.

This means that if you’d rather use your own voice recordings as a Status Update instead of posting a video or a text message, you can. Users will be able to record their voice and discard the draft if they’re not happy with it, and this feature can be found in the text status section of the Status Update feature.

Also, it appears that voice notes used as Status Updates will have a maximum length of 30 seconds. Voice notes will also have access to the same privacy settings as regular Status Updates, meaning that you can choose who can see them and who can listen to them. The feature is currently only available to those using the beta of WhatsApp, so those not on the beta will have to wait until WhatsApp rolls it out to the public.
