One of the rumors we’ve been hearing is that with the Samsung Galaxy S23 series, Samsung might not be making any major changes to the hardware or design. There will be one major hardware change and that is for the Ultra variant where the main camera could be upgraded from a 108MP sensor to a 200MP sensor.
Megapixel count has typically been used as a marketing tactic but it seems that in this instance, it could actually be something to be excited for. This is according to a post on Weibo shared by GalaxyClub where an alleged sample from the camera has leaked online, showing us what we might be able to expect from it.
As you can see in the sample above, it looks like the jump to the 200MP sensor could pay off hugely. The image to the right is taken with the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s 108MP sensor, while the one on the right was taken with the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s 200Mp sensor, and you can clearly tell that the new sensor preserves the details really well.
Exactly how this is expected to play out in real life remains to be seen, but being able to crop so deep into a photo while retaining the details means that photographers will have a lot more room to work with. Either way, this sample has gotten us pretty excited for the phone which should be announced in the early part of 2023.
