OnePlus could be launching a phone with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 by the end of the year

It has been a busy year for OnePlus. The company launched the OnePlus 10 Pro at the start of the year, followed by some mid-ranged handsets, and then the OnePlus 10T, but it looks like they aren’t quite done just yet.

If a post on Weibo by leakster Digital Chat Station is to be believed, OnePlus could be planning yet another flagship handset that could launch by the end of 2022, and that this phone in question could be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset (which hasn’t been officially announced yet).

It is a bit weird and confusing because that would indicate that OnePlus will be launching three flagships in a year which is quite unheard of for any smartphone maker, especially since two a year is the most we’ve seen so far. Also, Qualcomm’s new flagship chipsets are generally announced at the end of the year but only find their way into phones the following year, so we’re not sure how OnePlus plans to launch a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 phone so quickly.

Obviously since these are just rumors they are best taken with a grain of salt, and also because the post was translated, perhaps there might be some nuance or meaning lost in translation. Either way, we’ll have to wait and see, but don’t put too much stock into these claims just yet.
