Gamify your workouts with Bandai Namco’s Digimon fitness tracker

We imagine that for most people, working out is a chore. It’s necessary, but it isn’t always the most fun. If you’re trying to motivate yourself or maybe your kid to get more exercise, then perhaps Bandai Namco’s new Vital Hero fitness tracker could be worth taking a look at.

The Vital Hero is basically a smartwatch/fitness tracker that straps a Digimon onto your wrist. For those unfamiliar, Digimon was launched back in the 1990s as an alternative to Tamagotchi, where instead of just raising a virtual pet for the sake of it, players could raise monsters that they could then battle against other players.

With Vital Hero, Bandai Namco has put Digimon onto the wrist where the more active the wearer is, the faster the stats of their monster will improve, making them stronger, which in turn will give them a better fighting chance against other players. In a way it’s similar to how the more you exercise, the fitter you will become compared to someone who doesn’t exercise as much.

The device is clearly aimed at kids, but we imagine that adults who grew up in the 1990s and had fond memories of playing Digimon with their friends might find this appealing too. It is priced at $65 which is kind of expensive for a kid’s toy, but relatively cheap for a wearable, so if you’re interested in picking one up for yourself or your child, it is available for purchase on Amazon right now.
