Wild Rift Icons Global Tournament Kicks Off in Singapore this July

0

Riot Games recently announced that it will be launching the 2022 Wild Rift Icons Global Tournament this coming June 14. The event will be held at Suntec Singapore and will run until July 9. According to a press release from the company, 24 teams are included in the tournament, with eight qualifiers from regional competitions, and 16 signed up for the play-in stage. A shared grand prize pool of $2 million will be up for grabs.

The play-Ins will take place on June 14-18, while groups will be set for June 21-25, followed by the quarterfinals on July 1-2, semi-finals on July 5-6, with the finals taking place on July 9. The tournament was intended to be held in Europe, although global pandemic guidelines have affected visa applications and travel for some of the teams. As a result, Riot Games decided to move the tournament to Singapore.

The launch of League of Legends: Wild Rift for mobile devices back in 2020 was met with a lot of praise and fanfare, as the much-anticipated game had yet to make its presence felt on mobile platforms at the time. With the rise of smartphone-based multiplayer tournaments, it only seemed logical that the biggest MOBA title would be at home in the palms of gamers worldwide.

More information about the tournament will be given in the following weeks, and fans can follow @wildriftesports for new updates.
