Nintendo Previews New Updates for Mario Kart Tour

0

Nintendo’s Mario Kart series has certainly cemented its place in gaming history as one of the biggest and most popular video game franchises of all time, and its influence on the whole “kart racer” genre has been nothing short of incredible. While its transition to mobile in the form of Mario Kart Tour had a bit of a rocky start, it’s seen some improvements thanks to updated content from Nintendo.

In a recent post, the official Mario Kart Tour Twitter account teased a new update for the game, as well as an upcoming playable track for the game. The next major event for the game will be the Amsterdam Tour, alongside “Amsterdam Drift,” which will be a new course available to players soon. A new wave of Mii racing suits was likewise shared on Twitter, which also featured the “Nabbit” outfit.

Mario Kart Tour was originally launched in 2019, and featured a similar look and racing mechanics to the main-line Mario Kart games. As the game was developed for mobile devices though, other features like touch controls, in-app purchases, online play, and seasonal events were added and modified to cater to mobile gamers.

Currently, Nintendo’s main-line racing title is Mario Kart 8 deluxe, which first launched on the Wii U and later made its way to the Nintendo Switch. Interestingly enough, Nintendo has decided to bring over some of the exclusive courses on Tour and make them available on their console title via DLC content.

Mario Kart Tour is one of many Nintendo-published games available for smartphones, alongside Pokémon Go, Fire Emblem Heroes, Pikmin Bloom, Super Mario Run, and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. In the past few years, the company has been licensing its IPs for use in mobile-oriented games, with the gameplay tailored to suit mobile devices and shorter bursts of gameplay.
