WhatsApp working on update that will make your private chats even more private

0

WhatsApp has a feature that allows media files like photos and videos to be automatically saved to your phone when they are sent. This is pretty useful if you’re trying to preserve your memories, but not so good if you’re trying to keep things as private as possible, but that will change soon.

A report from WABetaInfo has revealed that WhatsApp is working on an update to its Disappearing Messages feature that will basically disable the automatic saving of media files to your phone. This means that as long as you send media files in a chat marked as having Disappearing Messages, those photos and videos won’t be automatically saved.

Users can already change their WhatsApp settings to prevent the automatic downloading of media files, but we imagine that there might be some users unfamiliar with this and this little update could make things easier on users who might be otherwise dealing with sensitive files.

For those who are unfamiliar, the Disappearing Messages feature is a privacy-focused feature that lets users select a timeframe, after which all messages are deleted. That being said, it’s not a completely foolproof solution as users can still take screenshots or forward messages before they disappear, but we suppose that’s better than nothing.
