5 Best car mounts for your smartphone

It’s pretty obvious that you should not be using your smartphone while driving, but what if you had to drive while looking at your phone occasionally? Maybe you want to pull up maps and get directions to where you’re headed? That’s where phone car mounts can come in handy.

By placing your phone closer to your eye level, you can at the very least look at the maps using peripheral vision instead of placing it near your gearbox or on your lap where you have to take your eyes off the road. If you’re looking for a new car mount that’s sturdy and easy to mount a variety of smartphones, then here are some of the best ones we’ve found.

AINOPE Car Phone Holder Mount

There are various ways of mounting your smartphone in your car, one of which is by hooking onto the vents of your car’s air-conditioning unit, especially if you’re not a fan of placing a mount on your windscreen where it might fall off due to the adhesive losing its stickiness or if you want to keep your windscreen clear of any objects.

AINOPE’s latest car phone mount uses three grasp points which the company says will allow it to hook securely onto the vent without moving or slipping, plus it also relies on a gravity-style clamp that lets you easily slide a phone in without having to fiddle around too much to get it to fit just right.

iOttie Easy One Touch 4 CD Slot Universal Car Mount

A lot of car infotainment systems these days know that we don’t really listen to CDs that much anymore, but if you happen to have a radio system that still has a CD slot, how about putting that slot to good use with iOttie’s CD slot universal car mount?

This mount, as the name implies, slides into the CD slot of your car’s media unit. By placing it at this height, it brings it closer to you in case you might need to interact with it (you definitely shouldn’t do this while driving). It also has a ball joint so if you prefer using your phone in landscape mode, it won’t be an issue.

The iOttie mount will support phones ranging from 2.3-iches to 3.5-inches in width, so short of you using a tablet, it should be compatible with most phones out there today. It also has a one-touch lock and release mechanism that makes taking a phone in and out a piece of cake.

Kenu Airframe Car Phone Mount Wireless Charger

The Kenu Airframe mount is also another vent mount, but it has an extra feature in which it can also wirelessly charge your phone thanks to its Qi-compatible wireless charging system. This means that if you need to keep your phone juiced while on the go, this is one way to go about it.

The wireless charging system also means that you don’t need to plug and unplug your device when you need to charge, making it easy to put your phone in or take it out when needed. It also uses a ball joint so changing its orientation or swiveling it around to best suit you won’t be a problem.

PopSockets Phone Mount for Car Dash

These days, it’s not uncommon to see phones with PopSockets on them. For those unfamiliar, PopSockets are an accessory that people attach to the back of their phones to make it easier to hold and use with one hand.

The problem with them is that if you want to mount it in a car, it can be troublesome and difficult, so it’s not surprising that PopSockets has created their own car mounting system. Using a suction cup, users have the option of attaching it on top of their car’s dashboard or on the windshield, and they can then slide the PopSocket into the slot and they’re good to go!

Scosche MAGDM Universal Magnetic MagicMount

The problem with some car mounts that rely on adhesive is that over time, especially under the heat, it can melt and it might fall off. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing since it means it’s easier to remove if you need, but if you prefer something a bit more permanent and long lasting, Scosche’s MADGM mount might be the one for you.

The company claims to use 3M’s automotive-grade adhesive so it should be rather sturdy. It uses magnets to help keep your phone in place (which means you’ll need a compatible case), so taking the phone in and out will be easy as you won’t need to fiddle around with locking mechanisms.
