These are the first phones that will use MediaTek’s Dimensity 9000

Last month, we were greeted with a couple of pretty incredible announcements as both Qualcomm and MediaTek introduced their latest flagship processors. The chipsets, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and MediaTek’s Dimensity 9000, will be found in many of the best phones coming over the next year.

While we’re already beginning to see new phones announced with Qualcomm’s chipset in tow, the jury was still out in regards to what smartphone brands would pick up the Dimensity 9000. Now, the guessing game can come to a halt as an official announcement has revealed some of the first Dimensity 9000-powered smartphones.

Here’s the initial list of what companies are partnering with MediaTek to bring new smartphones to the mix:

  • Oppo
  • Vivo
  • Redmi
  • Honor

Going even further, Oppo and Redmi confirmed the names for these previously-unannounced devices, as the next generation of Oppo Find X flagships will use the Dimensity 9000. Redmi also confirmed that the Redmi K50 will make use of MediaTek’s flagship chipset.

What makes the Dimensity so exciting is that the gap between MediaTek and Qualcomm has almost completely diminished. This very much feels like when AMD finally caught up to Intel on the Windows PC side of things with its processors and graphics cards.

As expected, MediaTek highlights some of the key factors for why a Dimensity 9000 smartphone will provide an incredible experience once it makes its way into new smartphones:

  • MediaTek Imagiq 790: The chipset’s flagship 18-bit HDR-ISP. The world’s first to support 320MP
on smartphones, and the world’s first to support simultaneous triple camera 18-bit HDR video
    recording.
  • Leading 3GPP Release-16 5G Modem: The integrated 5G modem amplifies sub-6GHz
performance up to 7Gbps downlink using 3CC Carrier Aggregation (300MHz). It also features the
world’s 1st R16 UL enhancement, and continues MediaTek’s dual SIM leadership with new
5G/4G Dual SIM Dual Active support.
  • MediaTek MiraVision 790: The chipset can support the latest 144Hz WQHD+ displays or super-
fast 180Hz Full HD+ displays, while optimizing power efficiency with MediaTek’s Intelligent Display Sync 2.0 technology.
  • Wi-Fi 6E, New GNSS with Beidou III-B1C and New Bluetooth 5.3: Smartphone users can enjoy
seamless connectivity thanks to the chipset’s support for the latest Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GNSS
    standards.
  • Dimensity 5G Open Resource Architecture: The Dimensity 9000 allows the world’s leading
smartphone device makers to create customized flagship 5G smartphones that stand out.

If you’re wondering how much longer we have to wait in order to get our hands on these new smartphones, MediaTek answered that question as well. The first Dimensity 9000 smartphones will begin arriving in Q1 2022. And with this announcement, we can start getting even more excited to see how MediaTek and Qualcomm phones stack up in an effort to determine which one is truly the best.
