Google TV and Pluto TV partner to bring you 300 free live TV channels, and more

0

Introduced a little over a year ago, Google TV continues to expand its reach into more homes with devices like the Chromecast with Google TV and new TV sets that are powered by the interface. One area where Google TV was lacking was in the live TV department, as you were forced to rely on third-party apps. But with an upcoming update, that’s all about to change as Google TV and Pluto TV have partnered up to provide over 300 live TV channels.

When the update goes live, all of the streaming TV channels will appear within either the Live tab or with the “Free Live TV recommendations”, under the For You tab. The update will be arriving in the “coming weeks”, so hopefully, this means we’ll get 300 channels right before 2022 kicks off.

To go along with today’s announcement, Google also has a few extra goodies lined up for everyone to take advantage of. The first of which offers six months of Peacock Premium for free! All you need to do is activate a new Google TV (or other Android TV OS device) and get six months of Peacock’s Premium streaming service for free. Priced at $4.99 per month, this is a great incentive for those who have been considering checking out Peacock’s service, but haven’t jumped in yet. In order to take advantage, Google states you’ll just need to visit “the For You or Apps tab after you set up your device.”

Keeping in line with the holiday season, Google also points out that you can stream “thousands” of movies for free right from the YouTube app. Some of the highlights include “Jingle All The Way” and “Bridget Jones’s Diary.” You’ll also find new apps to try out on your Google TV device in the “Free movies & TV” section under the Apps tab.

Finally, if you’re looking for that perfect holiday movie to watch with the family and can’t find it in the usual places, chances are, you’ll be able to find it on Google TV. There are more than 200,000 different movies and shows to watch, and you can even use your Play Points to rent them for free. Plus, whenever you rent or purchase a movie or show, you’ll earn even more Play Points.
