Amazon announces the Smart Air Quality Monitor for just $70

Amazon is making great strides to move away from just providing great smart TV, speakers, and displays. As evidenced by its introduction of Amazon Astro (the household robot), there are a lot of different areas where the company is trying to gain a foothold.

The latest device to arrive is a little bit of an odd one, as the Smart Air Quality Monitor is now available for pre-order. As the name aptly suggests, this is just an air quality monitor for the home, measuring five different factors. An LED indicator placed on the front will give you an idea of what the current air quality is in your home, or in the room that it’s placed. The monitor will measure the following different factors:

  • Particulate Matter (PM)
  • Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
  • Carbon Monoxide (CO)
  • Humidity
  • Temperature

And because it’s integrated with Amazon Alexa, you can be presented with the readings on your Echo Show, or right from the Amazon Alexa app on your Android or iOS device. From the app, you’ll be able to view the hourly, daily, and weekly scores for each of the metrics, and notifies you whenever the air quality drops to a certain level.

As Amazon has a tendency of doing publicly and privately, the company confirmed that the Smart Air Quality Monitor was a product of user feedback. And by integrating with the Alexa app, you can figure out what it is that you need to do in order to improve the air quality in your home.

You can pre-order the Smart Air Quality Monitor from Amazon starting today for just $70 with free Prime shipping. According to the landing page, this monitor will be released on December 8.
