Google Calendar’s Material You update is pretty much perfect

0

Over the past month or so, Google has been steadily pushing updates to its own apps, bringing with it the new Material You design. The latest of which is Google Calendar, which not only changes how your calendars look, but adds new and useful widgets.

For starters, the app bar at the top, along with the “add event” button in the bottom right corner now support Dynamic Color Theming. This also applies to the slide-out menu for when you need to look at the different calendar views or if you are selecting calendars to add the list.

Both of the widgets for Calendar have also been updated with support for the new Dynamic Theming, so it will match up pretty-much perfectly with your home screen aesthetics. But Google has also gone so far as to make it quick and easy to add new events, without actually firing up the Calendar app.

In the top right corner of both the “schedule” and “month view” widgets, there’s a new “+” button to add an event. This is one of those features that has been requested for some time, and it’s finally arrived thanks to the latest version of Calendar. And with Google’s new commitment to rounded corners and softer edges, these two widgets have been updated to follow suit.

When tapping the “+” icon on either one of the widgets, you’re taken directly to an “Add Event” page from the Calendar app. After entering all of your information and pressing the save button to finish adding the event, you’re taken right back to your Home Screen.

The latest Google Calendar update is beginning to roll out starting now. However, it has not yet arrived for anyone. The update carries a version number of 2021.37.0, and is being rolled out in waves. In the event that it’s not available on your device just yet, you can grab the update from APK Mirror at the link below.
