ASUS ROG Phone 5s and 5s Pro announced with new Snapdragon 888+

Folding phones are cool and all, but gaming phones are incredible. ASUS is arguably the best in this corner of the market thanks to the likes of the ROG Phone 5. Today, the company has announced two new devices in the ROG Phone 5s and ROG Phone 5s Pro.

From a design perspective, you’re not going to really notice much of a difference. But that’s because ASUS made the majority of the changes to the power inside of these devices.

The ROG Phone 5s and 5s Pro bring the new Snapdragon 888+ chipset, making these the latest devices to run Qualcomm’s latest processor following the Mi Mix 4 and Honor’s Magic 3 series. Coupled with the SD888+ is a boost of up to 16GB of RAM on the Phone 5s and up to 18GB of RAM on the 5s Pro.

The display remains the same with a 6.78-inch AMOLED panel, along with a variable 144Hz refresh rate. But ASUS points out that it improved the touch sampling rate, pushing the limit up to 360Hz. This may not mean too much to everyone, but it will slightly improve responsiveness while playing mobile games.

If you already own the ROG Phone 5, then you can rest easy knowing that the Phone 5s series is compatible with the same accessories. ASUS is also including its AeroActive Cooler 5 in the packaging for the ROG Phone 5s.

ASUS confirmed that the ROG Phone 5s and 5s Pro will succeed the current ROG Phone 5 and Phone 5 Ultimate. However, the company did not reveal how much either of these phones will cost, nor did it share when the devices would be released.
