Earlier this month, Nothing CEO Carl Pei revealed that the company’s first product was being delayed. The Ear 1 headphones were supposed to be launched this month, but for various reasons this was pushed back. Today, the company has started sending out emails confirming that the Ear 1 will be announced on July 27th at 9 AM ET.
Unlike other devices, like the Sony WF-1000XM4s, not too much is really known about these headphones and what they will offer. Nothing has done a pretty good job at keeping these under wraps, leaving us with a few teasers here or there, but no major leaks.
One of these teasers was the ‘Concept 1’, which gave us a look at a rather unique transparent design with some Nothing branding. However, we don’t really expect these to be the final product when everything is all said and done.
There are a few things that we do know, namely that Flipkart will sell these in India, while Selfridges will take care of offering the Ear 1 earbuds in the UK. No such announcement or confirmation has been made in regards to when these launch in the US.
The truly wireless earbud market is one of the most competitive accessory markets, as every company continues to try and match the popularity and usefulness of the AirPods Pro. Companies have even tried to completely change the idea of what headphones should look like, such as the Galaxy Buds Live. But then, the Galaxy Buds Pro arrived going back to a more familiar design.
It will be interesting to see how Nothing handles the launch of its first product. Hopefully, we won’t be thrown back into the OnePlus One days with an invite system. Thankfully, we have about a month left to wait before these will be officially unveiled.
