Sony’s gearing up to announce its next Xperia device on April 14

0

While Sony doesn’t have the same clout as Samsung and OnePlus here in the U.S., things are a bit different for the company in the rest of the world. It seems that the company is gearing up to announce its next smartphone, presumably the Sony Xperia 1 III on April 14th, after the official Sony YouTube Banner was updated. The banner reads “Xperia – New Product Announcement – 14 April 2021, 16:30 JST / 09:30 CEST – #SonyXperia“.

For those wondering about the time difference, that makes it at 3:30 am on the 15th here on the East Coast, and 12:30 am for those on the West Coast. So it’s entirely possible that unless you’re a night owl, you’ll be waking up with news of a brand new Sony flagship to try and take on the Samsung’s and OnePlus’ of the world.

As for what we might expect to see from Sony’s upcoming announcement, leaks and rumors have suggested that we’ll see the following specs for the Xperia 1 III:

  • 6.5-inch 4K OLED Display
  • 120Hz Refresh Rate
  • 12GB RAM
  • 256GB Storage w/ microSD card slot
  • 5,000mAh Battery
  • 65W Charging
  • 3.5mm Headphone Jack
  • “Cyber-shot zoom capabilities”

This is definitely going to be Sony’s 2021 flagship, and it seems that the company could be pulling out all of the stops for this one. With LG leaving the smartphone business, maybe this is the chance for Sony to finally gain a foothold here in the U.S. market and take some of that market share away from Samsung, Apple, and OnePlus. Then again, with so many flagship-level features and specs, it’s going to be hard to get a phone like this under that $1,000 price point.

Nevertheless, we’re excited to see what Sony’s been up to and what other features could be in store for us in the next couple of weeks. Let us know what you think about the rumored Xperia 1 III and if you’re excited to see what Sony is bringing to the table.
