After teasing us for the past few weeks, Oppo has finally unveiled the mid-range Oppo Reno 3 Pro. As we were expecting, the new smartphone isn’t going to be competing with the big boys, but it’s certainly interesting enough if you’re looking for a decent smartphone that won’t break the bank.

As you might expect, the new Reno 3 Pro sports the same overall design as the previously released Reno 3. The back may look like all the other glass-backed smartphones out there, but Oppo’s chosen to use plastic instead to help keep the cost and weight down. The gradient, glossy finish is still a fingerprint magnet, but at least it won’t shatter if you drop it.
The phone’s 6.4-inch 20:9 1080p OLED display dominates the front of the phone with a double-wide cutout for the phone’s two front-facing cameras. While we’re seen this before on devices like the Galaxy S10+, Oppo is claiming a world’s first with a 44MP sensor for its main front-facing camera. The one beside it is a 2MP depth sensor for improved portrait shots but would have preferred an ultra-wide camera instead.
On the back, the main camera module features a total of four sensors. The main 64-megapixel sensor with an f/1.7 lens, 8-megapixel with an f/2.2 ultrawide lens, 13-megapixel f/2.4 2x telephoto and a 2-megapixel monochrome sensor for capturing more light, enabling the camera’s ultra-dark mode which allows it to capture images where there is virtually no light. Oppo’s also thrown in a dedicated NPU chip for image processing, a hardware feature typically reserved for high-end smartphones.
Initial camera tests look good for a mid-range device even though Oppo is promising a significant camera update later this week. The 2x telephoto camera also sports a 5x hybrid zoom option which works decently well, but we’re hoping it’ll get better with the update. Overall, the imaging experience this phone offers should allow the Reno 3 Pro to compete with much more expensive smartphones.
Other specs include the new MediaTek Helio P95 processor, 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB storage options, expandable microSD storage and dual-sim support. And you also get an in-display fingerprint sensor and a 3.5mm headphone jack, but there’s only one speaker which is located along the bottom edge of the phone. The 4,025mAh battery supports 30W fast charging, delivering a 50% charge in 20 minutes or a full charge in just under an hour.
The Oppo Reno 3 Pro is a very competitive mid-range phone. The price is set at Rs. 29,990 in India($415) for 128GB model or Rs. 32,990 ($455) for 256GB of storage. The phone will go on sale this Friday in India but should be making its way to other markets soon after that.
