When the Samsung Galaxy Fold was announced at the start of the year, one of the shocking things was not so much its foldable technology, but rather its price where it would be priced at an eye-watering $1,980. This is almost double the price of a standard Samsung flagship.
One could argue that we are paying for revolutionary new technology, but the flipside is that we are paying for tech that is untested. Clearly this price is aimed more towards early adopters willing to take a chance. The good news is that according to an exclusive report from SamMobile, they claim that for the next-gen Galaxy Fold, Samsung could actually be lowering the price.
The report does not mention exactly how much cheaper the new Galaxy Fold could be, but at $1,980, anything below that would be cheaper. We doubt that Samsung will be bringing the price down to $1,000 since essentially you are paying for a phone and tablet at the same time, but a potentially lower price tag could help it appeal to more customers.
It also makes sense that the price would be lowered. This is because new tech tends to be more expensive, but as it starts to normalize, it gets cheaper. This sounds like it could be good news for would-be adopters, but according to the report, one of the compromises Samsung had to make would be in its storage, where they will be equipping the phone with 256GB of storage instead of 512GB.
Take it with a grain of salt for now, but the first-gen Galaxy Fold is expected to be officially re-released on the 6th of September.
