When it comes to Android updates, how long a device is supported for varies from brand to brand, with some brands doing a better job of supporting their devices compared to others. It seems that HMD Global is absolutely killing it in that department because the company has recently released its roadmap for Android 10, and it looks like nearly Nokia smartphone is on it.
As you can see in the roadmap below, HMD Global is already planning to release Android 10 for some of its phones in Q4 2019. This will carry on into 2020 where for the first and second quarter of the year, the company plans on releasing updates for the rest of its handset lineup. As we said, this roadmap seems to cover pretty much almost all of HMD’s handsets which is actually rather amazing.
For the most part, most companies tend to support their devices for about 2 years, and anything beyond that is usually a bonus. In case you’re learning about Android 10 for the first time, this update has also been referred to as Android Q where the developer preview was released earlier this year.
It will also mark the end of an era where Google has ultimately decided to forgo the use of dessert names in its Android updates. There is no word on when the update will be released, but based on the release schedule in the past, we’re probably looking at some time towards the end of 2019.
