Could Android 9.0 Pie be headed for the Samsung Galaxy S7?

0

It is understandable that when it comes to pushing out Android updates, most handset makers limit their devices to one or two generations worth of updates. This is because most companies would much rather customers upgrade their devices to the latest model.

If you’re the owner of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and you’ve resigned yourself to having Android 8.0 Oreo as your last update, we have some potentially good news. The folks at XDA Developers have recently spotted some evidence that suggests that Samsung could be working to bring the Android 9.0 Pie update to the Galaxy S7.

This is based on an updated page on the WiFi Alliance’s website where the company has updated the Galaxy S7’s listing to show support for the handset running Android 9.0 Pie. Now before you get too excited, XDA points out that Samsung’s FOTA testbed (which is where Samsung uploads build numbers to show software that they are testing) does not reflect these changes.

What this means is that Samsung could simply be exploring the idea of maybe bringing Android 9.0 Pie to the Galaxy S7 but it might not necessarily be a done deal. If this is true, it could be good news for those who are still holding onto their phone. There is no mention of the Galaxy S7 Edge, but we imagine that if they could bring Android 9.0 Pie to the regular Galaxy S7, then updating the Galaxy S7 Edge should not be an issue either.

Either way, maybe you should temper your expectations for now, but we’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for any announcements or confirmation from Samsung.
