In true Google fashion, the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are already receiving the April security patch showing other OEM’s how to get an update out quickly. As well as important security patches, Google has also bundled in a fix that addresses the issue with the Ambient Display, which caused it to flash randomly.
The April security patch also includes the following improvements:
- Improves Voice-Unlocking performance for Google Assistant
- Adjust Wi-Fi connectivity during eSIM activation on certain carriers
- Improves Bluetooth connectivity on Pixel devices
- Removes screen flash when ambient display wakes for some Pixel 3 devices
If you’re not aware of the issue with the Ambient Display on the Pixel 3 devices, some users were reporting a brief white flash when waking their devices from Ambient Display. The issue can be traced back to November 2018, so it’s good to see Google finally issuing a fix for it. The devices also benefit from improved Bluetooth connectivity, which should help with the random dropouts with wireless headphone connectivity that have been seen with the Pixel 3.
The April 2019 security patch is now live so should see it as an OTA download hitting your Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL very soon. If it’s not yet showing as available to download, spam that “check for update” button or just wait until your device tells you it’s ready. Or, if you’re that way inclined, you can sideload the image from the Googe Developer Site.
