Last month OnePlus reassured owners of the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T that the Android 9.0 Pie update for their devices is coming. It looks like it wasn’t all empty promises because according to a post on the OnePlus forums, it appears that the company could begin the testing of the beta as soon as this week.
This is according to David Y., a community manager for the OnePlus forums who wrote:
“Latest Update: Hey guys, we found some issues in the Google CTS. Our software team is working on them and will have another round of CTS very soon. Considering HydrogenOS doesn’t have to pass the CTS, we may release Pie beta based on HydrogenOS early this week.”
OnePlus did not mention when the update will be released, but as the post said, the beta testing could begin this week which brings us one step closer to the actual release, whenever that will be. Over in China, it also appears that OnePlus has started to recruit testers for the next update.
It’s actually refreshing to see OnePlus so committed to bringing the update to their older phones. Typically for Android devices that aren’t Pixel handsets, manufacturers don’t bother updating them if they are more than two years old. The OnePlus 3 and 3T were launched in 2016, making them 3 years old.
We imagine that the majority of users have probably since upgraded their devices, but in case you’re still holding on, this update could give your phone a new lease on life and make them feel like they’re (almost) brand new.
