LG V40 officially unveiled: specs, price & release date

0

The LG V40 was officially unveiled today, delivering on most of the rumors that have been floating around these past few months. The main feature that most people will be intrigued by is the camera’s 5-camera setup. That’s right, the LG V40 has three cameras on the back and another two on the front. But since LG is one of the only manufacturers that’s been playing around with wide-angle lenses, the LG V40’s camera system is unlike anything you can get from its competitors.

In addition to the standard 12MP camera on the back of the phone, the V40 also features a 16MP sensor that’s paired with a wide-angle lens and a 12MPsensorn that’s paired with a 2x optical zoom lens. But LG took the opportunity to also increase the sensor quality on the main 12MP camera, bumping up its pixel size by 40% from 1μm to 1.4μm. The larger pixel now matches what Google, HTC, Huawei, Samsung and most other smartphone manufacturers have been using for the past 18 months. This change should dramatically increase image quality, improve low-light performance and reduce shutter when compared to the LG G7 ThinQ and last year’s LG V30.

Other highlights include a 6.4-inch 1440 x 3120 P-OLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, 6GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, expandable with a microSD card, a 3,300 mAh battery, Quick Charge support, wireless charging, a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner (sorry, the in-display fingerprint scanner didn’t pan out) a 3.5mm headphone jack, 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC support. The LG V40 ThinQ also has the same “Boombox Speaker” system from the LG G7 which uses the empty space on the inside of the phone to increase bass output from the main speaker.

LG V40 ThinQ pricing

The LG V40 ThinQ isn’t going to be cheap. The phone’s base

price has been set at $899, but pricing will vary across Europe and service providers. In the US, the price of the LG V40 will range between $899 and $980 at launch.
