Google is adding a selfie GIF button right in Gboard’s suggestion bar

0

An update rolling out to Gboard on Android and iOS is making a small, but important change (depending on your messaging habits). The app is adding the ability to quickly and easily send selfie GIFs, straight from the keyboard’s suggestion bar. The new placement ensures sending a reaction GIF with your own face is as easy as typing out a message.

Tapping the button will let you record a GIF using your front or back camera and there’s two different modes: Loop and Fast-Forward. Loop is essentially a regular ‘ol GIF that takes a small 3-second clip and repeats it over and over again, while Fast-Forward allows you to record a full minute, but speeds up the output.

Although The Verge reports that the update is out, we’re not seeing the updated feature anywhere in our Android or iOS apps, so perhaps it’s a slower rollout. I’ve gone ahead and checked for the update on APKMirror but it looks like it hasn’t been updated since Dec 12th at the time of writing.
