LG has scrapped development of the LG G7

The last month has been a roller coaster ride for the rumored LG G7. First, we heard that LG was planning to rebrand the “G” series starting with the G7. Then a rumor claimed it would be launching in April. That was quickly followed up with a leaked render. Things started to take a turn when LG confirmed they will no longer release phones on a yearly schedule. The future of the G7 is now even more uncertain.

According to a new report, LG’s vice chairman has told the mobile division to scrap all development of the G7 and start over. Somehow, the rumored launch window of April seems to be intact. The report claims that this decision was made because “the company hasn’t been able to find a strong selling point” for the G7. That never stopped them in the past.

LG’s phone situation is very strange. The V series started as a stark contrast to the G series, but the LG V30 brought the two closer together. The V30 was everything the LG G6 should have been. The G7 would be an improvement over the G6, but the V30 already did that. It makes perfect sense for LG to slow down the release cycle and get more focused.
