Google confirms Pixel and Pixel 2 slowdown issue after sideloading most recent update

Sometimes Android updates break as many things as they fix. In the most recent January security patch now available for the Google Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, a strange bug inside appears to be causing noticeable lag for those who attempted to sideload the update a bit early. Everything form UI animations, to app opening speeds appear to be affected and while this doesn’t appear to be an issue for those who received the update over-the-air, the fix is actually rather simple.

As anyone in IT will ask you: “Have you tried turning it off and back on again?” Yup. A simple reboot seems to do the trick. Even with such an easy fix, Google has come out and acknowledged the issue, confirming that sideloading the update is what’s causing the problem. Simply waiting for the OTA will prevent any issue. You know, if a reboot is too much trouble for ya. ?
