A lot of devices have been updated to Android Oreo over the last few weeks, but one device left off of that list was the OnePlus 5T. Despite being announced after the official build of Oreo was released, OnePlus decided to leave the device running Android Nougat.
During the launch event, OnePlus stated that Oreo would be coming to the 5T before the end of the year, and as we near December 31st, it seems the company may be following through on its promise. According to the OnePlus Germany Twitter account, the Open Beta for Android Oreo is available now, but there is no mention of this in the official OnePlus Forums.
Furthermore, there has been no mention of this release from any of the other OnePlus social media accounts, so it seems that someone may have jumped the gun a bit. Nonetheless, considering the fact that this was even mentioned confirms that we are right around the corner from seeing Android Oreo finally arrive on the OnePlus 5T.
Personally, I was in the camp that thought it was ridiculous for OnePlus to release a new device in the latter part of the year, without the latest version of Android in-tow. I know others have felt this way, as it seems that the company decided to settle for Nougat, instead of pushing the Android Oreo onto the masses.
We’ll likely be seeing or hearing more about the Open Beta program for the OnePlus 5T in the coming days. If that is the case, be sure to back up all of your important files and documents on your device to prepare for the inevitable release of Oreo.
Let us know if you have seen anything different, and if you have seen an official statement from OnePlus on the matter.
