Some Pixel 2 owners report problems with included 3.5mm adapter

With the launch of the Pixel 2 earlier this year, Google rightly received some flak for opting to remove the 3.5mm headphone jack and offering customers an adapter in the box instead. That didn’t seem to be the original plan for the Pixel 2, since some Pixel 2 owners received devices with cut-outs for included headphones.

Either way, there are now reports that the included adapter isn’t working properly with some Pixel 2 devices. In a new thread on the Google Product Forums, one user complained about the adapter included in the box with his device, saying sound still plays from the phone when the adapter is connected.

Recently purchased the Pixel 2 and am trying to play music with my headphones through the provided usb-c to 3.5m headphone jack adapter. However, sound is still being played through the speakers of my phone. Am I missing something here?

Multiple other reports throughout the thread suggest a bad adapter may be at fault, but a Google community manager replied to the thread to say that the issue is being investigated and will be addressed in a future OTA update. Some users in the thread also suggest disabling USB Audio Routing in the developer options for the phone, which may make the adapter work again.
