The OnePlus 5T can’t stream Netflix in full HD resolution

0

The OnePlus 5T is a great phone with a beautiful display, but not all apps can take full advantage of the 1080p resolution. Owners have noticed that Netflix and Amazon Prime Video can’t play in HD on the OnePlus 5T and the OnePlus 5. The problem has to do with DRM and it can only be fixed with an OTA update.

Devices need to meet certain criteria for Netflix and Amazon Prime Video to work. This is to protect the content that’s streaming. The OnePlus 5T is lacking the Widevine rights management certificate that is needed to play anything beyond standard definition. You pay full price for a high-end smartphone and it can’t play HD videos because the manufacturer goofed up.

OnePlus hasn’t addressed this issue yet, but it’s certainly a very annoying problem. Things like this are out of user control. You just expect apps to work at full strength when you buy a new device. Hopefully, OnePlus can get this problem fixed as soon as possible.
