Back in July, we wrote about the Pixel XL 2 having a squeezable frame like the HTC U11. Thanks to a new FCC filing from HTC, we have more information about this feature. First of all, it won’t be available on the XL model. HTC is making the smaller Pixel 2, while LG is making the bigger model.
The FCC filing confirms that HTC is indeed making one of the Pixels, but we can also gather some more information. In one of the screenshots, you can see “Language input & gestures” in the Settings app. Underneath it says “Active Edge on, squeeze for your Assistant.” This confirms that a squeeze feature will be included, it will be called “Active Edge,” and it will launch Google Assistant.
This is interesting for a number of reasons. The two Pixel 2 models are already very different. The smaller Pixel 2 looks essentially the same as the Pixel, but the bigger model is a big departure. Now they will also have very different features. Will Google allow you to do more than just launch Assistant with Active Edge? Or are we looking at another Bixby situation?
What do you think of the squeeze feature? Is this something you can see yourself using?
