PSA: Google stops guaranteeing support for Pixel and Nexus devices the day they stop receiving updates

0

Google has updated their support documents to note the time period which Pixel and Nexus owners can expect to receive support for their devices, both online or over the phone. That date is the same date that the devices are no longer guaranteed security updates.

In the case of the Pixel and Pixel XL, that date is October 2019, and should be 3 years from the day the device launched otherwise.

3 years is still plenty long for support standards considering most folks don’t stretch beyond 1-2 years on the same phone. By that time, they’re just as likely to go buy a new phone or find a fix for any issues they have themselves rather than get on the horn with the company who makes it.

Still, it’s important for you to know these dates to ensure you have any issues taken care of before Google turns you away.

PS: Google still maintains that these dates are considered their “guarantee” period, which means there’s still a chance that updates and support can be had beyond those dates. That said, don’t hold it against them if they decide to shutter the windows as soon as they can..

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.
