There are two mysteries with every Android release: what number will it be and what dessert will it be named after. We still don’t know the dessert name (my money is on Oreo), but Google has confirmed the version number.
The 3rd developer preview was released today. In the “About phone” section, the new update lists Android version 8.0.0. That means we’ll be jumping from Android 7.1 to 8.0. With all the new features in Android O, a full number version is warranted.
Factory images for the Nexus 5, Nexus 6P, Nexus Player, Pixel, and Pixel XL are available now. Head on over to this page to download the files. The big change in this release is final Android O APIs. There are a few cosmetic changes as well.
