Samsung was testing a dual-camera setup on the Galaxy S8

0

It’s no secret that there’s a change coming to many of our favorite smartphones as we are seeing more and more OEMs implement a dual-rear camera setup. This started last year with the likes of the LG G5 and others, but Samsung was expected to do the same with the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus.

Now that the devices have been announced, we know that the rumors were wrong, but new images show off what is claimed to be a Galaxy S8 prototype. Naturally, the ugly fingerprint scanner is gone, while there are 2 camera sensors placed vertically above the flash and heart-rate monitor.

If this was indeed the Galaxy S8 that Samsung wanted to introduce, then this could be a peek into what could be coming in the future. However, Samsung will have to continue to develop the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner from Synaptics if they hope to remove the rear sensor altogether.

Considering the fact that I just purchased the LG G6, I may have held off a bit longer if this was the device that Samsung actually introduced. Instead, I’ll take my “normally” placed fingerprint sensor and not have to worry about stretching my fingers or worry about doing any acrobatics with my device to unlock it.
