We’ve been hearing a lot of rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S8 in the wake of the Note 7 fiasco. One of the recent rumors claimed the long-standing physical home button would be removed in favor of a fingerprint scanner built into the display. According to a new source, the fingerprint scanner won’t be on the front at all.
This new rumor contradicts the report that the Galaxy S8 will have an optical fingerprint sensor. If the sensor is indeed on the back, it would have to be a capacitive scanner (like most phones use today). Whenever there is conflicting information like this it’s always possible that both rumors are true…right now. Companies like Samsung have huge R&D departments. They test a variety of designs to see which works the best. Samsung could be testing both fingerprint scanner designs. Which one would you prefer?
