Facebook Messenger just got a little bit more fun thanks to today’s update. The social media company has announced it is bringing several classic arcade titles like Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Track & Field 100M, Galaga, and more to its messaging platform. The new platform is called Instant Games and it will be rolling out across 30 countries over the coming days for both iOS and Android.
To start playing with a friend, when you open the latest version of the app you simply tap on the game controller icon just below where you type your message. Once you finish a round of a game, everyone in the conversation can see your score and will have the opportunity to issue challenges. The games feature score-based leaderboards and the ability to challenge and congratulate your friends.
Right now there are 17 launch titles that support Instant Games, though not all of them are arcade classics. Words With Friends and Templar 2048 are both pretty new compared to other classics like Galaga and Pac-Man, but Facebook says it will add support for more games over the coming weeks.
