Mini-shops within brick-and-mortar locations isn’t a new thing. Apple notoriously provides one of its mini-shops within various Best Buy locations, and Google has tinkered with this concept before. Now, it seems that the big “G” is going all-in on this approach.

Starting in Canada, Google is creating a unique way to experience all of its new products. These shops are aptly named “Google Shops” and allow customers to test out the latest and greatest products including the new Daydream View VR headset, the Pixel and Pixel XL, Google Home, and more.
Speaking to TechCrunch, Janell Fisher, Google’s Director of Retail Marketing has explained the reasoning behind this new approach:
We love it when people can come in, discover, play and have fun and it just happens to be with technology, so we’ve really tried to layer on lots of different immersive sorts of experiences, some that are direct demonstrations of the product and product features, but some that are more exploratory and fun.
In addition to providing a new way to experience Google’s products, the company will also be hosting various workshops and sessions. These workshops will be held within the appropriate Best Buy location and may be run by Google employees or others such as YouTubers.

In addition to launching the Google Shops within Canada, Google has already launched three of these shops in the UK. The experiences will remain mostly the same, save for some subtle changes depending on the location and size of the shop.
The bad news is that Fischer confirmed that Google does not have anything in the works to bring this experience to those of us in the United States. This is fairly upsetting considering Google’s failed attempt to provide a different experience within Best Buy locations here in the States.
