The new Huawei Mate 9 is getting a lot of attention this week with numerous reviews hitting the web. We’re currently working on our review of the phone, but first we want to give you a look at the Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design. The phone shares its Kirin 960 processor and dual-camera with the standard Mate 9, but it’s slightly smaller thanks to its 5.5-inch curved QHD display and comes with 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Other design differences include a home button and fingerprint sensor below the display, “Porsche Design” written on the front, rearranged rear camera elements and the PD logo placed prominently on the back.
The €1359 price tag of the Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design is a bit steep. In an effort to bring the price down, Huawei has released the Mate 9 Pro which sports all the same features as the Mate 9 Porsche Design, but loses the prestigious branding. For $685 you can buy the Huawei Mate 9 Pro with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. If you want the 6GB model with 128GB of storage, you’ll need to set aside $775.
While these two phones share a name with the Huawei Mate 9, they share more design DNA with the Samsung Galax yS7 edge than Huawei’s flagship device. Of course, the metal back on Huawei’s phones does allow them to differentiate themselves a little from Samsung’s flagship device, but it’s clear that Huawei wanted to capitalize on its deisgn appeal.
