GoPro’s next action camera has been announced. The GoPro Hero5 Black is the company’s flagship camera. It follows the GoPro Hero4 Black, which was released nearly two years ago. GoPro cameras are very popular among the tech crowd. You can toss them in a bag and mount them pretty much anywhere. Let’s take a look at how the Hero5 compares to the Hero4.
3 Big Improvements
Waterproof and then some
In many ways, the Hero5 is not much different than the Hero4, but the few differences are very important. The biggest improvement is that the Hero5 doesn’t require a case to be waterproof. It’s the first GoPro to feature built-in water resistance. Since the GoPro is used in the water a lot, this will be a much-welcomed feature for users.
Steady Cam
The second big improvement is optical image stabilization. This is extremely important for a camera like the GoPro Hero5. One of the most common things to do with a GoPro is to strap it to yourself. The resulting footage can be very shaky. OIS will help produce videos that are much more fluid and smooth. The tech specs of the cameras might not be different, but OIS is going to make a huge difference when you compare videos.
One-button (or no button) activation
The third big change is the way you interact with the camera. A single press of the shutter button powers on the camera and immediately starts recording. It’s an incredibly simple way to catch that fleeting moment on camera. The Hero5 also has a 2-inch touchscreen display. You can preview shots, change settings, and edit footage with the easy touchscreen controls. And did we mention it has voice activation as well?
Price & Availability
The GoPro Hero5 Black will be available on October 2nd for $399. It will work with both of GoPro’s Android apps, the standard app for controlling the camera remotely and the Quik video editing app. Will you be purchasing the Hero5? Are you interested in GoPro cameras at all?
