Motorola wants you to know that the Moto Z and its Moto Mods didn’t happen by chance. The company has released a blog post which highlights how the Moto Z and its Moto Mods were built to perfectly complement each other. Specialized work was put into the development of the Moto Z’s “heat pipe solution” for keeping the CPUs’ heat in check, finding the perfect battery to fit withing a 5.2mm space, the reorganization of the phone’s 4 LTE antennas to avoid signal degradation while Moto Mods are attached to the phone and the use of a stainless steel frame which is 85% stronger than casings found in competing devices in order to avoid any “bendgate” issues due to the phone’s thin profile.
As for the Moto Mods, the goal was to create a completely open platform so that anyone could build a Moto Mod of their own. While well-known industry partners will be responsible for most the Moto Mods you’ll find in stores, there’s nothing stopping a hobbyist or startup from building and distributing their own Moto Mods for the Moto Z.
