Nest announces an outdoor camera for keeping an eye on your house

It’s been a while since we’ve seen a new product from Nest, but Google’s once wonder child has finally announced something new. The Nest Cam Outdoor is exactly what it sounds like. A Nest Cam…for outdoors. It’s the perfect camera for keeping an eye on the outside of your home.

The Nest Cam Outdoor has a few important differences from the regular Nest Cam. First and foremost, it’s waterproof. The camera is encased in a white waterproof shell. In addition to waterproofing, the outdoor camera uses magnets and screw-on mounts. The magnetic base allows you to point the camera in nearly any direction. It also has to be plugged into power instead of using batteries.

All the other great Nest Cam features are present in the outdoor version. It’s always recording and uploading footage to the cloud. This is 1080p video with 130-degree field of view. Night visions, which is important for outdoor cameras, is also still here. The Nest Cam Outdoor is available for pre-order now for $199. It will ship this Fall.
