Samsung says they haven’t given up on Android Wear yet

Earlier this week, there was a report claiming that Samsung was done with Android Wear devices. This wasn’t exactly shocking news. Samsung hasn’t created an Android Wear devices since the Gear Live in 2014. All of their smartwatch focus has been on Tizen. However, a Samsung rep has come out to shoot down the claims that they have given up on Android Wear.

“We disagree with Fast Company’s interpretation. Samsung has not made any announcement concerning Android Wear and we have not changed our commitment to any of our platforms.”

Not exactly the glowing endorsement we hoped to hear. Samsung is basically saying “no, we never said that.” But sometimes things don’t need to be said out loud to be true. Samsung clearly has put all of their smartwatch resources into Tizen. If they have indeed “not changed our commitment to any of our platforms,” that would mean they still have very little commitment to Android Wear.

If Samsung truly hasn’t given up on Android Wear, they need to put their money where their mouth is. Android Wear 2.0 would be a great reason to get back in the game. Do you think Samsung will ever return to Android Wear?

Ever since I flipped open my first phone I've been obsessed with the devices. I've dabbled in other platforms, but Android is where I feel most at home.
