T-Mobile has started seeding its monthly security update to the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge which brings more than just a security patch. The update also is activating the dormant FM Radio that has been built-in to the Snapdragon variant of the device.
The software update does not install any application to be able to use the radio, but once you’ve installed a compatible application, you will now be able to listen to any radio stations in your area. There’s a catch with this, however. You cannot use Bluetooth headphones to listen to the radio, due to the need for an antenna to bring the broadcast to your device. That means you’ll have to use your trusty ole’ wired headphones if you want to catch up on any of your local radio stations.
The update seems to have been pushed today, but in case you don’t have the OTA waiting for you, try connecting your Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge to the Smart Switch application on your desktop computer. Other than that, it seems that only T-Mobile users are getting this update, so we’ll have to wait and see what the other carriers do and see whether they enable the FM radio.
