Verizon has removed a feature from the Samsung Galaxy S7. For many of you, this is not shocking news. Verizon has been known to remove popular features from devices. This time, they have removed Samsung Pay from the Galaxy S7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Verizon users will not be able to use one of Samsung’s most important innovations…at least for now.
There is good news to this story. Samsung says Verizon users will be able to manually install Samsung Pay from the Play Store or Galaxy apps later this month. It will be available in both of those places on March 11th, which is the official launch date for the phones. The app will not be pre-loaded on the devices, but Verizon is not blocking the app completely.
We’re happy Verizon will allow users to download the app, but we can’t help but wonder if this situation will hurt Samsung Pay. Samsung has been pushing the service hard with new TV commercials lately. Many people are going to power on their new Galaxy S7 and wonder why it doesn’t have Samsung Pay. Will the average consumer know to download it from the Play Store?
